Off-Campus Adventures

Travel to new places, embrace new experiences and make life-long memories

Students need to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world contexts. Our Experience Week, Discovery Week and field trip offerings promote independence, offer adventure, and provide immersive, hands-on learning experiences.

Experience Week enables students in Grades 6-10 to travel to locations in Cambodia with their peers for a full week. Our students have visited salt flats in Kampot, waterfalls in Siem Riep and the forests of Mondulkiri. Students in Grade 11 travel to an international location. In 2024, our students explored the rainforests of Borneo. Experience Week activities align with our CAS (Creativity, Activity & Service) Program, a fundamental component of our Middle School and High School Program.

Discovery Week is for students in Senior Kindergarten to Grade 5. They participate in local projects outside of their normal schedule and enjoy a series of daily tasks, challenges and character-building exercises. Discovery Week concludes with an optional sleepover at school.

All CIS students in Elementary School, Middle School and High School participate in regular field trips linked to their classroom studies. An outing to a hydroponic farm om 2023, for example, reinforced an inquiry regarding growth rates and graphing. A Phnom Penh architecture tour in 2024 added context to an inquiry into Cambodian architectural traditions. Students visited a rock climbing center during Physical Education classes to explore rock climbing as a new form of exercise and team building. Field trips are a meaningful part of the day-to-day student experience at CIS.

Students in Grade 12 enjoy an annual class trip to commemorate their final year at CIS.

Experience Week, Discovery Week, all field trips and the Grade 12 commemorative class trip are complimentary offerings.
