English as an Additional Language

In elementary school EAL support creates language-rich environments and culturally relevant materials to support students' English development. EAL teachers focus on individual needs, providing personalized support to help students succeed academically and socially while respecting their cultural backgrounds.

The speech and language specialist at CIS is responsible for assessing and supporting students who have difficulties with speech, language, communication, and related cognitive-linguistic skills. They work collaboratively with classroom teachers, parents, and other specialists to develop and implement individualized intervention plans that address each student's unique needs. The speech and language specialist also provides professional development to teachers to help them incorporate evidence-based strategies that promote effective communication within the classroom.
