Safety and Security

Prioritizing comprehensive safety measures

At CIS, the safety and security of our students, staff and visitors is our top priority. We are committed to creating a secure learning and working environment.

SECURE CAMPUSES

Each CIS campus has controlled access points and surveillance systems to enhance safety during and after the school day. Our Security Team supports staff, students and visitors in English and Khmer.

VISITORS

All staff and visitors must present photo identification, have a pre-booked appointment, and to sign in at an access point on arrival. Visitors must wear their visitor badge at all times and be accompanied by a CIS staff member while on campus. CIS parents and registered caregivers must present and wear their parent ID cards when on campus during the school day or on weekends. CIS is preparing to implement upgrades to its security stations and access points.

PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES FOR VISITORS

CIS is committed to respecting everyone’s right to privacy, and protecting students, parents and staff. CIS also has a responsibility to protect all students, including their personal information that could be used to harm them, in line with our Child Safeguarding procedures. As such, visitors to CIS campuses are asked not to take photos of other people’s children, other parents or CIS staff without their consent. Visitors should not post photos of other people’s children, other parents or CIS staff on social media without their consent. Visitors should not take photos of class lists or other school information with the names of students, teachers or staff without explicit consent from CIS.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Procedures are in place and regular emergency drills are organized to ensure that students and staff are prepared for a variety of situations. CIS families are required to keep their emergency contact information up to date in Gibbon, our student information system.

INCLEMENT WEATHER

CIS monitors inclement weather, including very hot days, stormy weather and air quality. We recognize the importance of outdoor play and exercise for students of all ages; however, inclement weather may warrant indoor recesses, as well as the cancellation or relocation of after-school activities normally held outdoors.

TRAFFIC SLOWING MEASURES

Extensive traffic slowing measures have been implemented near Koh Pich Campus and Bassac Garden Campus. Speed bumps and staffed crossing points are in place.

SAFETY IN PHNOM PENH

Public transportation in Phnom Penh is limited. Most families commute to school on foot or by tuk-tuk, taxi or private car. Street safety is something to be mindful of in any large city. Families might refer to the safety advisory published by their home country government. See, for example, the travel advice and advisories for Cambodia published by the Government of Canada.
