Inspiring young athletes
Through our After-school Sports Program, students in Grades 2-12 have opportunities to participate, train and compete in basketball, soccer, volleyball, swimming, track and field, badminton, and cross country running.
Our After-school Sports Program is rooted in Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development model. This model provides an optimal training, competition and recovery schedule for each stage of athletic development. See our After-school Sports Program Handbook for more information.
Committing to a sports team means training, competing and being a member of a team. Students learn about commitment, discipline, winning, losing, and teamwork. Students do not need to have prior training to join a sports team; only a positive attitude and commitment are required.
CIS is a member of the International Schools Sports Association of Phnom Penh (ISSAPP), ASEAN Sports and Activities Conference (ASAC) and the Young Athletes of Phnom Penh (YAPP) group of schools. Our teams participate in both local and international sports tournaments.
We are proud to have hosted the 2024 ASAC Senior Football Championships and the 2025 ASAC Senior Basketball Championships. International schools from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia participated. We also host regular ISSAP and YAPP swim meets and sports events on campus.
Each year in June, athletes, parents and coaches come together to celebrate special achievements and teamwork at our annual Sports Banquet. Elementary School students enjoy an annual Sports Day with a variety of fun activities.
Students are able to take advantage of our excellent sports facilities. These include a regulation-size natural grass athletic field, short course swimming pool, two air conditioned gymnasiums, a dance and yoga studio, and a fitness centre with a CrossFit-type set-up. The CIS Roller Dome is located a few minutes from Koh Pich Campus.
All students in Senior Kindergarten to Grade 12 take Physical Education and Wellness classes during the school day as part of the curriculum. These classes enable students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. Physical Education and Wellness classes include swimming lessons.
